The ten block section of Cherry Creek encompassing Venice on the Creek will receive planting and irrigation improvements this coming summer. The areas near the Market, Wynkoop and Delgany locks will be planted with ornamental grasses and an automatic irrigation system. The grasses are xeric and require very little maintenance. The irrigation system will be used to get the plants established and then will be reduced only to water the plants as necessary. In addition, the lock islands will be retrofitted with a planting system that will allow seasonal growth of flowering plants such as daylilies. The timber wall at Wynkoop will be replaced with boulders similar to the treatment along the Creek at the Confluence Park. These improvements will further enhance this historic area of our City.
